GARW S.B.G.C. 0 - 9 TON PENTRE
MacWhirter Welsh Football League Division One
Saturday 13th October 2007
Ton Pentre were the latest team to inflict misery on Garw as the Bulldogs, who are sponsored by Gus Properties Ltd., ran riot at Blandy Park scoring nine goals against the league’s bottom club.
Kristian Orchard bagged a hat trick while Mattie Davies kept up his excellent scoring record with a brace that has seen him score four in three games since transferring from Carmarthen Town.
Garw knew they were never realistically going to get anything out of this match against the Rhondda Bulldogs with this latest hammering inflicting their ninth defeat in nine league matches; however, their plan would have been to keep Ton out for as long as they could.
Unfortunately this plan lasted just 55 seconds as a Garw defender kneed the ball into his own net following a cross on the right from Jonathan Kift.

The goal didn’t do Ton too many favours though as for the following 17 minutes the Bulldogs were quiet and uninspiring after not being made to work hard for the first goal despite being camped in the Garw half.
However, Ton did get themselves going and when the midfield picked up on a poor clearance from the Garw defence, Phil Clarke was played through on the left and from the flank he sent a lovely cross into the box that was headed into the net by Orchard for his first of the afternoon.
The Bulldogs got their third in the 41st minute from the penalty spot when Orchard was pushed in the box. Mattie Davies made no mistake with his penalty kick.
Ton Pentre were much better in the second half and within the first ten minutes found themselves 6-0 up.
Davies scored with a header at the near post from a Clarke corner on 46 minutes, a pass from Scott Hayward to Orchard saw the striker net from a shot taken outside of the box on 49 minutes and fantastic footwork from Orchard saw him notch up his third goal of the match three minutes later.
On 64 minutes Ton made a triple substitution with Alyn Jones, Dale Price and Lee Matthews replacing Kift, Davies and Ashley Evans.
Hayward grabbed his first goal of the season in the 78th minute when his shot beat Tom Chorley in the Garw goals after connecting with a corner kick.
The Rhondda Bulldogs scored twice more before the final whistle with both goals being scored in the last five minutes.
Alyn Jones latched onto a ball over the top from midfield and from his position wide on the left he cut inside and ran towards goal. Once in the area he finished skilfully with a well placed strike.
Paul Michael scored Ton’s ninth in the 87th minute when he ran the ball through the middle of the Garw defence to jab the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper for another good goal.
Following this match Garw remain bottom of the league having conceded 80 goals in nine matches while Ton lie in second place two points behind Goytre United.
