PONTYCLUN 0 - 0 TON PENTRE
Friendly Fixture
Tuesday 7th August 2007
Pontyclun put in a creditable performance in this 0-0 draw as despite creating very little themselves in front of goal they shut Ton Pentre out.
It was a lacklustre first half performance from the Bulldogs as they created very little when in front of goal. The best chance of the half fell to Pontyclun’s Andrew Morris in the 20th minute when he found himself running in on goal after braking through the Ton Pentre defence. Just as the striker was about to shoot he was caught out by a superb recovering tackle from a Ton defender.
Dane Williams provided the Rhondda Bulldogs with their best first half effort on goal when from 25 yards he unleashed a powerful strike that the Pontyclun goalkeeper did well to get down to and save despite the ball being struck directly towards him.
Ton Pentre came out onto the pitch for the second half looking determined to win the match but the resolute Pontyclun defence had other ideas, however, they were made to work hard by the Bulldogs.
Jonathan Kift was proving to be a nuisance and saw his 56th minute shot saved by the goalkeeper. The ball rolled free to Lee Matthews who was unable to get a shot in as the keeper dispossessed him of the ball with a sliding tackle.
In the 74th minute Ryan Morgan was causing problems in the box and the Ton player saw his shot saved from about 12 yards out. The Pontyclun keeper was unable to hold the ball after being forced to save. Christian Orchard looked likely to hit the back of the net when the ball broke free to him from the save, but his shot was scooped behind the goal for a corner as the goalie pulled off another fine save.
In the closing minutes of the half Phil Clarke gained possession of the ball on the left wing and supplied a cross into the box that was met at the far post by Andrew Mainwaring. He headed strongly at goal but the keeper got down low to the right-hand post to palm the ball away from danger.
This was Ton Pentre’s final work out before the start of the 2007/2008 season.
