TON PENTRE 8 - 1 RHYDFELEN
Friendly Fixture
Thursday 2nd August 2007
This hastily arranged home match in place of the cancelled Ely Rangers friendly provided Ton Pentre with their first pre-season victory. The Rhondda Bulldogs were dominant throughout this match against South Wales Amateur League team Rhydyfelin. Despite the score line the amateur team were a credit to themselves by never giving up and attempting to play attractive football against their superior Welsh League hosts.
Rhydyfelin held out for 16 minutes before former Merthyr Tydfil player Dane Williams fired home following consistent Ton Pentre pressure.
The Bulldogs grabbed their second goal in the 28th minute after Alyn Jones snatched possession from a Rhydyfelin midfielder to play the ball through for Dale Price. The Ton Pentre dynamo struck from outside the box for a sublime finish.
Goal scorers Williams and Price were involved in setting up the third goal when they beat the defence to square the ball to Jonathan Kift who was left with a simple finish past the visiting goalkeeper in the 41st minute.
Ton increased their lead further in first half injury time when Lee Matthews ran on to a through pass from Price to thump the ball over the Rhydyfelin keeper who was positioned off his line while attempting to narrow the angle.
The Rhondda Bulldogs were quick to score in the second half when after 4 minutes Ryan Shugars finished well with a header after connecting to Alyn Jones’ cross.
Price made it 6-0 two minutes later after he shimmied his way through the defence to place the ball in the back of the net to complete an excellent individual effort.
Rhydyfelin had something to cheer about in the 64th minute when they grabbed a consolation goal through big centre forward Jason Jones who smashed the ball past Marty Ellacott with real venom.
Ton Pentre added two more goals to their tally before the end of the game. The seventh of the match was scored by former TNS academy player Scott Jones, who came off the bench to put in a skilful display. He linked up with the impressive Richard Carter who crossed from the right for Jones to fire his shot high into the net.
Jamie Michaels scored Ton’s eighth when he persevered to create himself a goalscoring opportunity that he did not waste. This capped off a fine Ton Pentre display with some encouraging performances from both new and old players in the squad.
