This result will be looked upon as a shock result in the Welsh League circles with Garw lying fourth from bottom before the start of the game and Ton Pentre in third. However, for those spectating it was no shock with the home team putting in a resolute performance against the Rhondda Bulldogs.
For the first eight minutes Ton Pentre were in absolute control of the game. After a short corner between Ceri Harding and Mark Evans, Lee Tapper found himself in a position to score. He hit a sound strike but did little to get past Mark Elliote's stout goalkeeping for Garw.
It was then the case of first attack, first shot and first goal for Garw after Gareth Sage put the home team into a 1-0 lead.
After Garw had taken their unexpected lead, Ton Pentre came close to equalising when another corner swung in by Harding reached Mike Jones at the far post. Jones headed the ball upwards instead of down and over the cross bar for a goalkick.
Nice passing in the Ton Pentre defence saw a ball launched forward to Carl Thomas who took his player on with his skill and crossed into the Garw box to Harding. He did well to get his shot in but was unable to hit the target.
Carl Thomas again used his skill and avoided a challenge by a lunging Garw player and stood strong to enable himself to run into the box. He struck a good effort but Elliote was on guard for Garw.
Ten minutes before the interval the Rhondda Bulldogs had a goal disallowed after the referee's assistant had ruled David Withers offside.
Five minutes later and Ton finally drew level with the home team. Evans scored for the Rhondda team after Withers played the ball into his feet. It looked as though the opportunity to score had passed with Evans leaving it to the very last moment to hit the back of the net.
Garw took the lead once again at the start of the second half with a lovely hit shot by their striker. The opportunity had arisen after the Ton Pentre defence had failed to pick up two free players wide on the left.
The Rhondda Bulldogs bit back straight away after Carl Thomas used his strength once again to play Harding through on goal to make it 2-2.
Garw had their third attempt on goal in the game and they scored it. John Howe did well to stop their first effort but was unable to hold onto the ball, which provided the Garw strike force with the golden chance that would eventually see them take the three points form Ton Pentre.
Even the substitutions of Lee Skyrme and Ali Kiyaga for Evans and Nathan Prygodzicz respectively could not change things.
The three points dropped at Garw may damage Ton Pentre's aspirations of a sixth Welsh League title even though Neath drew 1-1 with Garden Village.
Milford United visit Ynys Park on Saturday 30 November with the kick-off at 3pm.
