November 30th: Ton Pentre 9 v Milford United

As the score line suggests, this game was a one sided affair. This was helped with the visitors only bringing ten players with them for their trip to Ynys Park. The club find it hard to attract the interest of players especially when it comes to away matches. It's a sad position to be in, however, Ton Pentre had a job to do and they showed no mercy.

Carl Thomas broke away from Alan Fendley in the Milford box, but before he could get his shot in the player fouled him and a penalty was awarded. Thomas converted and put the Rhondda Bulldogs 1-0 up after just two minutes.

Alex Lawless then ran the right wing and sent a low cross into the box towards Thomas. He nearly scored a second two minutes after his first but the cross bar got in his way.

Milford were unable to clear the ball from their half and Ton Pentre came right back at them. Ceri Harding struck a powerful shot and won a corner after Carl Woodhouse in the visitors goal pulled off an excellent save to tip the ball over the bar. Harding sent the corner in from the right and it reached Lee Skyrme on the far side of the Milford box and the player fired into the top right corner of the goal making it 2-0.

Lawless gained possession on the edge of the Milford area and struck a sweet ball goalwards and made it 3-0 after 21 minutes.

A few moments later after another Ton Pentre corner, Nathan Prygodzicz had a headed goal ruled out by the referee for a foul on Woodhouse in goals. The home side did make it four a couple of minutes later when Skyrme effectively ran the wing and sent in a low and hard cross. As Fendley was attempting to clear from his area he struck into his own goal and gave Ton Pentre a clear four-goal lead.

Following this, Ton Pentre captain, Andrew Hughes, was replaced by Mark Evans in midfield.

A rare chance then befell Anthony Roberts for Milford United. His shot was a result of some nice attacking play from the visitors; however, John Howe dealt with the attempt comfortably.

The Rhondda Bulldogs then jack-knifed straight into an attack with Lawless striking from outside the box hitting the post and rebounding out once again into Ton Pentre's possession and winning a corner. Harding once again crossed with Ton Pentre's Ian Davies, on his competitive debut, heading into goal for a 5-0 lead.

Immediately after half-time Thomas came close with a header but saw his effort cleared from the line. Then Milford pulled a goal back without trying when Jason Roberts passed back to his 'keeper into what he thought was safety. However, Howe slipped when trying to collect the ball and could do nothing but to watch the ball role across the goal line.

Ton Pentre then made a double substitution with Kevin Richards replacing Dean Morris and Ali Kiyaga being introduced for Nathan Prygodzicz.

A second goal was scored by Lawless in the 58th minute to make it 6-1 after some lovely play that saw Skyrme supply the ball to Ton Pentre's young starlet.

One minute later the score line was increased to seven when Thomas took his chance to grab his second of the game. It was Lee Tapper who had crossed in for Thomas' headed goal.

With the Rhondda Bulldogs oozing confidence and ability, Ali Kiyaga saw his shot go close with it picking up an unfortunate deflection that inevitably took it away from goal.

It was Kiyaga again in the 66th minute who came close when he turned well in the box and attained a corner for the Rhondda Bulldogs. From the set piece Roberts made up for his earlier own goal to score goal number eight.

Ton Pentre rounded off the goal scoring in the 70th minute when Thomas jigged around a Milford defender creating enough room for him to cross into Tapper who headed into the back of the net for a 9-1 score line.

Kiyaga came close on many occasions in the final 20 minutes but was unable to get himself on the score sheet. However, his dazzling and hard fought display since his introduction into the game must be noted.

After this rare home game its back on the road for the Rhondda Bulldogs, sponsored by Futureglaze Windows, when they visit Goytre on 7 December with the kick-off at 2.15pm. The next encounter at Ynys Park will be on Saturday 14 December when Caerleon will be Ton Pentre's challengers with a 3.00pm kick-off.
