February 22nd: Pontardawe 0 v Ton Pentre 5

Ton Pentre may be out of the Welsh League Division One title run in, but they can still certainly help decide where the crown goes, as this five star performance against Pontardawe shows. With five goals the Rhondda Bulldogs have most certainly ended Pontardawe's title aspirations in the replay of a game that was abandoned after 70 minutes in early November due to a waterlogged pitch.

The home side were the first to threaten in front of goal after just five minutes. Andy Jones broke through to have a shot on goal with John Howe doing well diving to his right to knock the ball away. With the keeper unable to hold onto the ball Jones had another chance to shoot but Howe's exceptional goalkeeping skills produced another fine save.

Ton spent much of the first half in control and they finally had something to show for it in the 32nd minute. A splendid movement starting in midfield eventually saw Ceri Harding pass a perfect through ball to Andrew Hughes running into the box. Hughes side- stepped around Mark Snell in goal, who went to ground expecting the player to hit the ball forward, scoring to put Ton into a 1-0 lead.

With adrenaline running high it didn't take the Rhondda Bulldogs long to double their lead. In the final third of the pitch a pin point pass by Mark Evans to debutante, Alan Jones, a new signing from Port Talbot, allowed the player to run past several defenders and across the by-line. The striker then unselfishly passed back to Evans who scored from 12 yards out with a powerful strike.

Ten minutes into the second half Neil Davies controlled the ball in midfield and unleashed a wonderful pass for Evans to run onto. After taking the ball forward he carried on the movement by passing to Harding who sent a cross into the box that reached Hughes. With no defender obstructing his path the Ton captain shot to score the third goal of the match and his second.

Two minutes later Ton were back on the offensive with Harding, whose pass into the box reached Hughes running through on goal. Just as the player was about to shoot a Pontardawe defender brought him down, however, no penalty was awarded with the referee signalling to play on.

Pontardawe didn't look as though they were capable of scoring with the team unable to break down the Ton defence. ,p> Ton Pentre's control on the game increased with a fourth goal in the 69th minute. Alan Jones was the scorer after using his pace to out run the Pontardawe defence for a one on one with the keeper.

The afternoons goalscoring was finished with a run by Lee Tapper down the right wing in the 80th minute, which saw the player able to pass to Jones in the Pontardawe box. The player scored his second with a confident strike for a superb debut performance giving Ton Pentre an exceptional 5-0 win.

The Rhondda Bulldogs face Briton Ferry away on Saint Davids Day, Saturday 1 March, at 2.15pm.

Ton Pentre's next game at Ynys Park is on Tuesday 4 March at 7.30pm while on the following Saturday (kick-off time to be announced) Oswestry Town are the visitors for a Welsh Cup Quarter Final match.

Ton Pentre: John Howe; Lee Tapper; Mark Evans; Ian Davies; Mike Jones (Nathan Prygodzicz, 83mins); Jason Roberts; Dean Morris; Andrew Hughes (Kevin Richards, 88mins); Alan Jones; Neil Davies; Ceri Harding (Tom Billings, 76mins).
