31/07/04: Ton Pentre 1 - 0 Pegasus Juniors HEREFORD based Pegasus Juniors provided a tougher challenge than Clevedon United a week previously at Ynys Park, as Ton Pentre played an entire 90 minutes until they found the net. Attractive and thoughtful football saw Ton create the majority of the chances in a match that they did deserve to win. The Rhondda Bulldogs should have ended the first half a few goals to the good with both Andrew Hughes and Lee Brown missing the target when in one-on-one situations with the Pegasus goalkeeper. Once again the youthful element in the Ton team was exciting to watch as they confidently looked to take the game to their opponents. Lyndon Williams was one such player who kept the ball close to his feet causing the Pegasus defenders problems. As full time approached it seemed that whatever Ton attempted, they were not going to hit the back of the net. Then in the 90th minute sweeping play by the Bulldogs forced Pegasus open and Raith Plant pounced to strike the ball under the keeper and over the line for 1-0. It could have been 1-1 seconds later as a Pegasus striker somehow missed a gaping open goal after Jon Howe was taken out of the action following a defensive mistake. The player hit the ball over the bar as Ton claimed their second success of the pre-season period. The next two games see Ton travel to play Penrhiwceiber on Thursday August 5 (6.30pm) and to Llanelli on Saturday August 7 with a 2.30pm kick off. Match report by Rob Dowling |
