05/08/04: Penrhiwceiber 1 - 2 Ton Pentre CONSIDERING that this was Ton Pentre’s second game in three days the result against Penrhiweiber Rangers was a good one even though the Rhondda Bulldogs waned towards full-time. A very bright start saw Ton plough forward from kick-off but were made to wait 23 minutes until they found the back of the net. When Jon Howe was quick to throw a long ball to Lyndon Williams a lovely passage of play was created. Williams then played the ball inside to Raith Plant whose sweet through ball was latched on to by Alyn Jones who finished the sublime move with a well-taken goal. It looked as though the lead was only going to last for eight minutes when Hugh Bowtell was harshly judged to have handled the ball in the goal area. Penrhiwceiber missed the resulting penalty when the ball crashed against the cross bar. The Rhondda Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead into half-time when from a corner Neil Hughes gave a big shout and half volleyed the ball into the goal. Ton began to look tired in the second half and started to lose shape, which enabled Penrhiwceiber to pull a goal back after Howe was lobbed in the box. Although the Bulldogs appeared to lose their way they remained strong enough to hold out for a win that was quite impressive considering they had played a Welsh Premier team just under 48 hours earlier.
