Grange Quins 2 - 0 Ton Pentre

TON PENTRE’S unbeaten run came to an end against Cardiff based side, Grange Harlequins in a top of the table clash at Leckwith Stadium. Two second half goals ensured that the Quins maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they proved themselves favourites for the Welsh League title.

Quins proved their usefulness from kick off when Kurt Nogan came close to grabbing the first goal of the afternoon but Ton’s Andrew Seburn cleared from the goal line.

Following a Ton corner Quins broke free with a three on two counter attack that they looked odds on to score from. However, Terry Evans saw his shot denied by Bulldog’s goalkeeper Jon Howe.

Quins also started the second half brightly and finally found the back of the net to take a deserved lead. Rob King was the player to breach the Ton defence and put the ball beyond Howe.

They could have doubled their lead if it were not for Lee Tapper’s header in the six yard box to deny an incoming player the chance to score.

Tapper was involved once again a few minutes later but this time in the Quins goal area. He had made a run to the far post to meet a cross and saw his shot somehow scrambled off the line by Quins ‘keeper Adrian Tucker.

A brilliant last ditch sliding tackle from Neil Davies in the Ton box stopped Brian Chowdery from having a free shot at Howe.

Following a period of Ton dominance there was no one on hand to stop Chowdery later on in the second half when he secured all three points by scoring from within the 18 yard box.

Five minutes from full time Neil Davies dribbled the ball the length of the pitch when he took it upon himself to try and gain some consolation from the match. From outside the box he took a shot at goal but the ball failed to dip and went over the bar.

Grange Quins are now four points clear of Ton Pentre after gaining this, their seventh win of the season.

News: Lee Brown has left the Rhondda Bulldogs for Welsh Premier outfit Haverfordwest County and made his debut for the West Wales side on Saturday against Connah’s Quay.

An official Welsh League website has been unveiled and can be found at www.welshleague.org.uk.
