GARW ATHLETIC remain on minus two points at the bottom of the league as they failed to beat Ton Pentre. They did however, manage to score only their second goal of the season against the Rhondda Bulldogs.

Ton took the lead after three minutes when Alyn Jones saw his hard work pay off with a sweet cross into the penalty area. Gary Wager was left helpless in his goal when Scott Hayward volleyed the ball into the net with the outside of his right foot.

The lead was doubled after 25 minutes when Shaun Fackerel slid to control the ball and passed it to Dale Price. From the edge of the box Price got a clean strike to make it 2-0.

Garw refused to lie down and were rewarded for their hard work with what was only their second goal of the season. Owen Roberts got on the score sheet when he connected with the loose ball after Jon Howe had saved the initial shot from Griffiths. The goal seemed to give Garw some belief.

Soon after Roberts provided Griffiths with the chance to give Garw the lead but the striker saw his header safely handled by Howe on the goal line.

The Rhondda Bulldogs put the game beyond Garw’s reach in the 55th minute when Hayward’s cross was allowed to reach Carl Thomas who finished well.

As the second half went on Ton were putting more and more pressure on their visitors, when Price fought his way through the defence he was unlucky to see his attempted lob go over Wager’s crossbar.

Ton’s fourth goal came in the 90th minute and was the result of some superb individual play from Alyn Jones. He twisted, shimmied and turned his way into the Garw area and dummied a shot to make the keeper go to ground leaving an open net for him to score his fifth goal of the season.

This win sees the Bulldogs in third place in the Motaquote Welsh League Division One with their next match an away trip to Goytre United on Saturday December 4 at 2:15pm.
