19/03/05: Motaquote Welsh League Division One
Ton Pentre 4 - 0 Bettws

TON PENTRE remain comfortably on the top of Motaquote Welsh League Division One following a dominant performance over Bettws. The Rhondda Bulldogs put a first half penalty miss behind them to stroll to a 4-0 victory and maintain their seven point lead.

When Carl Thomas spun to get into the Bettws box Paul Lilwall took a swipe at his legs to concede a penalty kick after 23 minutes. Thomas sent his penalty to the right and Leon Cosker chose the correct way to dive in order to turn the ball around the goal post.

Lee Tapper (12) defends against a Bettws attack. Dwayne Mardenborough covers. Moments later Thomas and Dwayne Mardenborough linked in a lovely one-two movement. It began to look as though it was going to be one of those days when Thomas’s half volley hit the post.

Thomas put things right immediately after when he headed in Ton’s first goal with Cosker missing the ball under the pressure of Mardenborough’s jump.

During the 38th minute of play Dale Price, from a central midfield position, executed a through pass for Andrew Hughes’ run out on the right. Cosker rushed from his line but it was in vain as Hughes dinked the ball over his diving body and into the net for a 2-0 half time lead.

Ton always looked capable of scoring more goals in this match and began to do so again in the 72nd minute as great running from Mardenborough ended with the striker playing a cross into the box. Cosker fumbled his catch and the ball broke free for Price who slotted in the Bulldogs third.

Goal number four was scored in the 84th minute, after a corner won by Hughes and taken by Price, found its way onto Andrew Seburn’s head. The player looked ecstatic to score against his old club.
