The period after the goal saw the Merlin Sports / Legea sponsored Rhondda Bulldogs dictate the midfield for long periods, without being able to get the second goal. Aberaman were hitting Ton on the break, however the Ton defence were more than capable of dealing with the threat.
Aberaman’s equaliser was an own goal in 27th minute, when a low cross was hit into the Ton area, the ball hit the heal of Jamie Bradford and looped over the head of Ellacott in the Ton goal. It was the bit of luck Aberaman needed to get back into the game.
The half continued with Ton taking the game to Aberaman with Jones and Conaty working tirelessly. On the 45th minute Jones was through on goal and was brought down by Pugh at the heart of the Aberaman defence, he was shown a yellow card. A few minutes later a shot by Ton’s Michael deflected off a defender and hit the post, this was the last chance of the half and summed up their luck.
The second half started with Jones again prominent, he was in on goal and unable to make the keeper save. Ton continued to attack, with the home side going forward on the break. Then on the 58th minute Aberaman scored their winner, poor defensive work allowed former Ton player Harding to square the ball into the path of Gareth Jones, who hit his shot from 20 yards low into the bottom corner of the goal.
The rest of the game was all Ton’s, they had shots at goal through Jones, Price, Conaty, Shugar and substitutes Mardenborough and Blatchford. It was not going to be Ton’s day. Then 4 minutes into stoppage time, there was an appeal for a penalty by the Ton players for handball. The referee waved play on, to most people it looked like one, but Ton’s “luck” was out and the game ended with a 2-1 loss.
This was a good performance by the Bulldogs, however they have to take their chances otherwise the season could slip away from them.
Next Saturday Ton are at home to UWIC 2:00pm, and then on the 23rd there is a re-arranged game away at Pontypridd Town, 7:00pm kick off.
