Ton Pentre devoured Dinas Powys in this Division One match with goals from Ryan Jenkins, Alyn Jones and Dwayne Mardenborough capping off a fine display of football.
Dinas Powys were the first team to create a goal scoring opportunity within the first ten minutes of the match when the pace of youngster Shelton Payne saw him leave the Ton defence in his wake. His quick movement caught Ton goalkeeper Marty Ellacott out of position providing an opportunity for a lobbed shot. Payne looked certain to score with his well-aimed effort but the ball hit the crossbar leaving the Dinas players gasping with disbelief.
A few minutes later Ryan Jenkins of Ton Pentre was presented with a similar opportunity from around 25-yards out from goal. However, Jenkins’ attempt ended up in the back of Joe Cushieri’s net.
Ton Pentre added a second goal in the 23rd minute when a failed defensive header from Stacey Kodani was pounced upon by the sprightly Alyn Jones who made no mistake with his assured finish.
The visitors pulled a goal back in first half injury time through Kodani after being supplied with a low cross from Ricki Morgan.
Any thoughts of a second half comeback for Dinas were dashed in the 51st minute when Jenkins scored his second and Ton’s third beating Cushieri with a chipped shot.
Ton Pentre introduced all three of their substitutes in the second half with Jones, Jenkins and Andy Mainwaring being replaced with Steven Conaty, Kristian Orchard and Dwayne Mardenborough.
The substitutions worked but Ton were made to wait until the 90th minute for the fourth goal. After Orchard’s shot was parried by the Dinas ‘keeeper, Ton’s Dwayne Mardenborough was in the right place to drive a shot high into the net. The player celebrated with his customary cartwheel.
This midweek win saw Ton Pentre regain third spot in the League.
