Relegated Barry Town put in a spirited performance at Ynys Park to deny Ton Pentre the easy walkover that some may have expected.
Despite being bottom of the league and struggling to raise a team for this match, Barry Town looked capable of causing Ton Pentre some damage when going forward. Former QPR and Cardiff City starlet Leon Jeanne was outstanding for the Dragons as his skill saw him open up play for the visitors consistently throughout the match.
The Rhondda Bulldogs were made to wait until 28th minute before they hit the back of the net. Jamie Michaels grabbed the goal when he latched onto a saved shot from Kristian Orchard in the Barry box.
Ton did have other chances to score but Barry goalkeeper Dan Bradley produced an outstanding display as he denied the Bulldogs with several agile saves.
Ton Pentre put the result beyond any doubt when Alyn Jones scored after a super Bulldogs move. Dale Price started the passage of play when his one-two with Orchard allowed him to find his way into the Barry box. He squared a pass to Jones who neatly netted past Bradley.
Ton went in search of a third goal and they found it in the 75th minute when a poor goal kick was punished with some alert play that provided Orchard with his opportunity to strike cleanly into the goal.
Barry’s players were a credit to their club as they never gave up and were rewarded with a consolation goal in the 90th minute when they stretched the Ton defence to allow their striker to hit a lovely shot past Marty Ellacott between the home teams goal posts.
