TON PENTRE 2-0 CAERLEON
MacWhirter Welsh Football Youth League East Division
Sunday 9th September 2007
The newly formed Ton Pentre youth team kicked off their season with a fine 2-0 win against Caerleon at Ynys Park in the East Division of the Welsh Football Youth League. Both goals were scored by Leon Jacka to give Ton all three points on the opening day of the season.
The young Rhondda Bulldogs survived an early scare when Caerleon almost scored twice in the opening five minutes. However, on the second occasion Ton counterattacked and Jacka collected possession from a cross on the right to cleanly finish for a well worked goal.
Ton were playing some intelligent football and linking up well all over the pitch. This stretched the Caerleon team which allowed the Bulldogs to find the back of the net again. Jacka used his skill to get himself into a goalscoring position and drilled the ball low and hard across the front of the goal for a wonderful effort.
The Rhondda Bulldogs were just as creative in the second half with Josh Christopher and Jonathan Hood controlling the midfield. Both players came close to scoring with efforts struck from outside the box but the ball on both occasions painstakingly went wide or over the crossbar.
Had it not been for the Caerleon goalkeeper Ton could quite possibly have won this match with a higher goal margin, however, the management team of John Emmanuel, Lee Tapper and Carl Thomas will have been pleased with three points and a clean sheet in the youth’s first competitive match.
Next up for the Rhondda Bulldogs is a trip to Cardiff Corries on Sunday 16th September, kick off is 2.30pm. Following that match Ton will be home to Ely Rangers in Welsh League Youth Cup on Sunday 23rd September (2.30pm).
