TON PENTRE 0 - 6 CWMBRAN CELTIC
MacWhirter Youth League
Sunday 14th October 2007
A skilful Cwmbran Celtic Youth showed the Rhondda Bulldogs why they were undefeated in all competitions at Ynys Park as Ton Pentre Youth slumped to their third consecutive defeat.
It was a lethargic performance from the young Bulldogs who found themselves a goal down after 11 minutes when a Cwmbran Celtic striker was able to bypass two defenders and slot the ball past goalkeeper Matthew Evans.
In the 24th minute the referee had no option but to award Cwmbran Celtic a penalty when Nathan Crosby and Ashley Luker sandwiched an attacker in the 18-yard box. Cwmbran Celtic converted from the spot and the score remained 2-0 until half time.
Ton Pentre made a terrible start to the second half when they allowed a Cwmbran Celtic striker to breach the defence and round Evans in goal to make it 3-0.
A few minutes later Jonathan Hood broke free for the Rhondda Bulldogs and as he was bearing down on goal the forward unleashed a useful looking shot but his effort went wide of the right hand post.
Less than a minute later Cwmbran Celtic were almost celebrating another but the ball was desperately cleared off the line by a Ton defender.
During the 63rd minute Evans was forced to rush off his line for a one-on-one with an attacker. The goalie pulled off an excellent save by getting down low to block his shot.
Ton ended the match in disastrous style when they conceded three more goals in the final 15 minutes. Pressure from the visitors saw them score their 76th minute goal and their fifth came in the 88th minute from a shot outside the box that hit the post before crossing the line. Their sixth was scored straight from the restart of play due to both a lack of concentration and confidence.
Despite the score there were glimpses of what the youth are capable of and they’ll look to put it right in their next league fixture on Sunday 21st October at Ynys Park (2.30pm).
