TON PENTRE 2 - 3 NEWPORT YMCA
MacWhirter Youth League
Sunday 21st October 2007
Once again Ton Pentre were made to regret their missed chances in the Welsh Football Youth League as Newport YMCA took all three points back to Gwent despite being reduced to 10 men just before half time.
In the 24th minute Ton’s Nathan Crosby linked well with a cross from the left but his header unluckily hit the left goalpost resulting in gasps around Ynys Park as it looked certain for the back of the net.
Less than a minute later it was Newport who found themselves in front when against the run of play an attacker got through on the left to hit the ball across Ton goalkeeper Ryan Betteney for it to neatly nestle on the inside of the right post.
Ton pulled themselves level in the 26th minute when from a cross on the left Daniel Rowe connected to hit a lovely first time shot that rippled the back of the net.
Dean Harris hit the cross bar for Ton on the 28th minute and five minutes later Leon Jacka smashed a shot against the goal post.
In first half injury time a Newport defender was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for fouling Rowe when he was running in towards goal.
From here Ton seemed confident that they could find the goal they needed to get themselves in front but Newport scored in the 63rd minute when a failed clearance under pressure by Betteney allowed a Newport striker an easy finish.
It got worse for Ton in the 82nd minute when a free kick was conceded a few yards outside the box and was powerfully struck straight into the goal.
The Bulldogs did pull a goal back through Alex Rees in the 90th minute but it was too late for a comeback.
Ton Pentre Youth’s next match is on Wednesday 31st October away to Ely Rangers. Kick off for the match is to be confirmed.
